10 Things to Do in Bromley This Weekend

Can't decide how to spend your weekend? From farmers' markets to countryside walks, here are ten brilliant things to do across the Borough of Bromley.

The London Borough of Bromley is one of London's most underrated destinations for a brilliant weekend. Spread across ten distinct neighbourhoods — each with its own character — there's always something on, whether you're looking for outdoor adventure, great food, culture, or simply a relaxing afternoon in a good pub.

1. Walk Chislehurst Common

Start your weekend with a morning walk across Chislehurst Common — 180 acres of ancient woodland and open grassland right on the doorstep. It's free, it's beautiful, and it's one of the finest green spaces in Outer London.

2. Visit the Chislehurst Caves

Just a short walk from the Common, the Chislehurst Caves are a genuinely unique experience. Twenty-two miles of man-made tunnels, a wartime shelter history, and legendary rock concerts make this one of Bromley's most distinctive attractions.

3. Browse Bromley's Artisan Market

The Bromley Artisan Market pops up regularly in the town centre, drawing local makers, street food vendors, and artisan producers. It's the perfect spot to pick up something special and sample food you won't find anywhere else.

4. Explore Kelsey Park, Beckenham

Kelsey Park is one of the jewels of the borough — an ornamental lake surrounded by mature trees, with resident herons and waterfowl, a lovely café, and a well-equipped children's playground. Ideal for all ages.

5. Lunch at Locksbottom

Locksbottom is Bromley's best-kept foodie secret. The small high street punches well above its weight with excellent restaurants, including the celebrated Chapter One — one of the finest restaurants in the South East.

6. Walk Hayes Common

At over 200 acres, Hayes Common is one of the largest areas of common land in Greater London. Ancient heathland, woodland walks, and incredible wildlife make it a favourite for dog walkers, runners, and nature lovers.

7. Discover Petts Wood High Street

Petts Wood's independent high street is a joy to explore. Family-run butchers, fishmongers, florists, gift shops, and an impressive restaurant scene — all without a chain in sight (almost).

8. Take a train day trip from Bromley South

With trains to London Victoria in under 15 minutes and direct services to the Kent coast, Bromley South is an underrated jumping-off point for a day away. Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, and even the Kent beaches are all within easy reach.

9. Catch a show at the Churchill Theatre

The Churchill Theatre in Bromley Town hosts a packed calendar of West End productions, comedy nights, ballet, and concerts throughout the year. Check the programme — there's usually something on worth seeing.

10. End with a pub in Chislehurst or Shortlands

Round off the weekend at one of Bromley's brilliant gastropubs. The Imperial Arms in Chislehurst and the Shortlands Tavern are both well worth a visit for quality food, great beer, and a proper local atmosphere.
